about

Khanh Nguyen (Kay) is a Vietnamese visual artist from Hanoi, who lives and works in the Washington D.C. area. Kay started drawing at the age of 4 but she did not begin to paint until the later years of high school, when she discovered her love for oil paint. Though Kay is more of a self-taught artist, she embraces the contemporary art movement, with relatable themes allowing her audience to inject their own perspectives – enjoying art should not be only looking at a work that appeals to one’s sense of beauty but also stimulates the mind. She received her BA degrees in political science and philosophy as well as well minor in studio art from James Madison University in the May of 2019, and she will attend George Washington University in the Fall of 2020 for MFA in interior architechture

Kay often use the mix of oil paint and acrylic to paint large sized portraits, where she explores the roots of her identity through the eyes an Asian woman living in a foreign land. Her goal is to create visually pleasing paintings but also mesmerizing enough to peek viewers' interests in learning more about Asian cultures, religion, and philosophy ideologies.
